Yucca elephantipes
Yucca elephantipes is a very versatile and hardy plant originating from Central America with a bold and handsome shape. Yuccas are extremely drought tolerant and will adapt to almost any condition and grow in full sun, part shade, full shade or even indoors.
Yuccas have long woody stems ending in a crown of sword-shaped leaves. There are a few different varieties of Yuccas available.
One of the most popular is with the cane, where the woody stem is exposed, showing the crown of bright green sword-shaped leaves on top.
Another popular way of purchasing Yuccas is a tip, which means without the exposed trunk. The Yucca tips come in either a bright green colour or a golden variegated colour which gives a great contrast.
Yuccas can also come in a sculptured form, with many different trunks going in different direction, each with the sword-leaves on top.
Yuccas give a real modern, trendy and Mediterranean feel and are great planted as a single feature, in pairs, rows, groups or pots.
Yuccas are great in pots, as they can tolerate periods without water when on holidays etc.
